INCLUSION

Interactive children's book promotes inclusion!

Manuela Stier, Managing Director of the Förderverein für Kinder mit seltenen Krankheiten and social pedagogue Melanie Spescha are jointly launching the interactive children's book "Inklusion - Keiner zu klein ein besonderer Freund zu sein" about friendship and disability. The aim is to promote inclusion in nurseries, kindergartens, schools and society in the long term. Manuela Stier, founder and managing director of the Association for the Promotion of Children with Rare Diseases, often hears that a lack of understanding, ignorance and prejudice towards children with special needs is a major burden for the families concerned. This made her enthusiasm for the inclusion program and her motivation to support it with her expertise all the greater. The children's book tells the touching story of seven animal friends about friendship and disability. In addition to appealing illustrations, you also get access to 60 matching game and craft ideas.

Children's book: No one is too small to be a special friend

The idea for the inclusion program came to Melanie Spescha during her studies and her work and her work with children with disabilities: "Young children are curious, open, tolerant and eager to learn. If they are are already used to interacting with people with disabilities, it is it is a matter of course for them that they will also be supported in their professions, decisions and everyday life". For the trained social worker, it is therefore clear that you have to start with the The youngest members of society. Her interactive children's book presents the topic of disability in a child-friendly way, removes taboos and promotes respectful treatment of "being different".

Cooperation with the support association for children with rare diseases
Manuela Stier, Managing Director of the Förderverein für Kinder mit seltenen Krankheiten, was able to use her many years of experience, countless contacts (over 15,000 on LinkedIn over 15,000) and her extensive knowledge. This opened doors for the project. As a In addition to the Förderverein für Kinder mit seltenen Krankheiten, she was also able to win over the "Denk an mich" foundation as a patron.

"It couldn't have couldn't have been more fitting," says Melanie Spescha about the cooperation. "The support association for children with rare diseases is the ideal partner for my Heart project. Because it is also committed with heart and passion to affected children and young people".

Play and craft ideas

Teaching knowledge in a playful way and promoting inclusion
The cheerfully illustrated children's book is complemented by 60 matching games and craft ideas on the website. These are coordinated with the respective book pages and bring the topic of disability closer in a creative, playful and fun way. For example, children can learn what certain disabilities feel like. In addition to self-awareness, the play and craft ideas include other forms of learning such as movement, creativity, musical activities or group and individual settings. You also get over 60 creative templates online to make the animals in the book, play ladder games, practice animal footprints with a memory game, learn about emotions and much more! At the end of the book there are portraits of ten children and young people who are coping with the disabilities featured in the book. The focus is not on the disability, but on their abilities and what they enjoy doing.

More understanding in a private and professional context
The interactive tool can be used in a private context, but it is also intended to be used by daycare center employees, teachers, remedial teachers or kindergarten teachers to impart knowledge in their day-to-day work. "It's not just an ordinary book that gathers dust on the shelf after being read once, but a tool that can be used to address a wide range of children's learning styles," says Melanie Spescha. The book will be available from mid-February 2022 and is suitable for children aged 4-8.

Price CHF 39 (incl. 60 craft and game instructions on the website), of which five francs will be donated to the support association for children with rare diseases.
