27 Ukrainian refugee children with cancer and their families now live in Küsnacht!

The municipality of Küsnacht has set up a home for Ukrainian refugees. Following private initiatives, over 100 people arrived a few days ago, including many sick children. The "Sonnenhof" in Küsnacht (ZH) is the new home of refugees from Ukraine. They arrived in Küsnacht ZH last week in buses and thanks to the individual initiative of entrepreneur Alexander Lüchinger. The "Sonnenhof" has been inhabited again for a few days now; the former old people's home has become an improvised children's home, a home for mothers and a home for the disabled - in short, a hostel where the traumatized victims of war can breathe a temporary sigh of relief.

HELP TOGETHER QUICKLY AND EASILY!

The Association for Children with Rare Diseases and the municipality of Küsnacht ZH are running this fundraising campaign together to buy beds, mattresses, pillows, covers, desks, chairs, medicines, mobility to hospital, mobility aids, essential products, etc. for the Ukrainian families (120 people). We will let you know at a later date what has been financed thanks to this fundraising campaign.

The project management for this aid project lies with the municipality of Küsnacht, which can count on numerous motivated volunteers. This Monday, the beds were delivered to the "Sonnenhof" and assembled by volunteers.

To date, CHF 153,949 has been raised thanks to KMSK crowdfunding.

As we have just learned from the mayor Markus Ernst, the municipality of Küsnacht has already donated CHF 200,000 to help in Ukraine. Great!

Now we are asking you for further financial Support. All donations will be used to purchase various goods and services. There is very little we can do for these Families, but it comes from the heart.

Current information and media reports

We were asked what will happen to the infrastructure when the refugees are able to return home one day. All the furniture and equipment will be delivered to the families in Ukraine as soon as this is possible again. At the moment they have to prepare for a longer stay in Küsnacht. All of us (the municipality of Küsnacht, volunteers, benefactors and the Förderverein für Kinder mit seltenen Krankheiten) are doing our best to help the families wherever possible and to show them that they are very welcome in Switzerland.

Support association for children with rare diseases
5-8% of the Swiss population are affected by a rare disease, 50% of them children and adolescents.

Everyday life for these families is characterized by uncertainty, especially when there is no diagnosis yet. The Support Association for Children with Rare Diseases has been working on behalf of affected children and their families since 2014. We provide direct financial aid (CHF 1.8 million has been paid out so far), create free family events (more than 7500 guests since 2014) to connect the 675 affected families from our KMSK network, promote the transfer of knowledge about rare diseases to (newly) affected families, professionals and the public (around 120 independent media reports in print, online, TV and radio in 2021/22). To make this possible in the future, we are dependent on donations, legacies and patronage contributions.
